Our Lonely Planet book* says about Mr X’s Shiggidy Shack, “Lanterns on battered picnic tables on the sand put you in instant party mood at this popular joint. On many nights bands hook up to the generator and jam; on others, karaoke drives many to drink (more). Thursday is bonfire night.”
A bunch of us went to Shiggidy Shack (on the Caribbean side of St. Kitts) on a Thursday night. We got it all: a beautiful sunset, the limbo, a band, karaoke, bonfire, fire-eater, rum punch and good food. Bill and I arrived minutes before the recommended 6:00 for snagging a group of tables…well before sunset.

Wow! Looks great! Was the lobster as good as it looked? And was it as large as it looked? I’m really glad Bill learned how to eat fire – that will be great entertainment at Okoboji this summer. Especially while waiting in line at the Taco house. And I can’t wait to meet your pet monkey! what did you name him?

Thank you for your comments, Jeff, Peggy and Marti.
Jeff, Bill said the lobster was very good. (I ordered something else, but can’t remember what.) Compared to what a restaurant in Iowa would serve, the Shiggidy Shack lobster would have still been better. We had better lobster on St. Kitts, but, still…..for the not-a-lot price and fun atmosphere (entertainment, etc.), it was still very good at Shiggidy Shack.
Well, Bill said he’d do fire eating at Okoboji if you will, too. (Or, did I just make that up?!) Oh yeah, while waiting at the Taco House. That would make it even more worth it to wait 30 minutes for the yummy Taco House food. Too bad the TH doesn’t have a phone, or you could call them and tell them this great idea!
Oh, and for the pet monkey, Bill said I can’t tell you in public (i.e., here on the blog) what we named it. But, it had something to do with a monkey that always wants to know everything about everything in the plots children’s books…by Rey.
