This coming Sunday, December 6th, is Rolfe, Iowa’s, Holiday in the Heartland.  It will begin with a 2:00 tea at the library followed by separate festivities at the RAM Event Center (the former Rolfe school) running from 3:30 until 6:00 PM.

The Friends of the Library met this week at the Rolfe Public Library for decorating this tree, book discussion and dinner.

The day holds a little something for everyone including gift-giving ideas from vendors, choral singing, Santa arriving on a fire truck, a meal, a nativity and door prizes.

I was told awhile back (but haven’t since verified) that there will also be a children’s mall where children may purchase a gift for their parents for $1. An item purchased at the children’s mall will be placed in a sack and stapled shut so parents can’t be tempted to peek before Christmas!

A limited inventory of prints of Mother’s watercolors will be available on the 6th at the Rolfe Public Library tea at 2:00.  A more thorough inventory will be available immediately following the tea at the RAM Event Center (the former Rolfe school) from 3:30 until 6:00.

SCHEDULE OF THE DAY:

AT the ROLFE PUBLIC LIBRARY on Sunday, the 6th:

2:00 — Christmas Tea (refreshments and the annual Christmas skit)

AT the RAM EVENT CENTER (formerly the Rolfe school) on Sunday, the 6th:

3:30 – 6:00 — “Great shopping with Rolfe area vendors.”  Among those items available will be prints of Mother’s watercolors, including a few already matted.  The prints range from $15 to $70.  Profits from sales of the prints go to the Rolfe Public Library Trust to help fund the oral history project.

3:30 — The Pocahontas Community Chorus will sing.

4:00-6:00 — Supper:  Baked potato bar, oyster stew, and dessert bars

4:30 — Live nativity

5:00 — Santa arrives on the fire truck.

5:45 — Drawing for quilt and two Event Center memberships

Personally, of what I know vendors will have from 3:30 until 6:00, I’ve got my eye on some jams that Busy B’s will have available.  If the peach/pineapple jam and the blueberry/raspberry jam is there, and if I nab some before it is gone, Busy B’s will put it in gift baskets for me. * With what else, you ask? With you-never-know-what-you’ll-find-items from their store that they’ve picked up at auctions. Old books? Wine glasses? Something else? Something little I supply that I also want them to include in the gift basket?

* I’ll go to their shop in the former library to have the gift baskets custom made.

I hope you are able to attend these festivities at the library and the RAM Event Center.  At the Event Center, I’ll be at the table where prints of Mother’s watercolors will be available.  At that same table we’ll also be accepting sponsorships and/or donations toward the conversion of the 1980-81 Rolfe oral histories.  The oral histories are currently on close-to-obsolete audiocassette tapes and will be converted to CD format.  (I’ll post more about the oral history conversion sponsorships by tomorrow – Saturday – night.)
